シェイクスピア・ソネット鑑賞短歌61: Tanka for Sonnet 61
61
わが眠り さまたげるのは 君の愛?
否(いな)、わが愛だ 眠り奪うは
Is it thy will thy image should keep open
My heavy eyelids to the weary night?
It is my love that keeps mine eye awake;
Mine own true love that doth my rest defeat,
Is it thy will thy image should keep open
My heavy eyelids to the weary night?
Dost thou desire my slumbers should be broken,
While shadows like to thee do mock my sight?
Is it thy spirit that thou send’st from thee
So far from home into my deeds to pry,
To find out shames and idle hours in me.
The scope and tenour of thy jealousy?
O, no! thy love, though much, is not so great:
It is my love that keeps mine eye awake;
Mine own true love that doth my rest defeat,
To play the watchman ever for thy sake:
For thee watch I whilst thou dost wake elsewhere,
From me far off, with others all too near.
キーワード訳注
Is it thy will thy image should keep open
My heavy eyelids to the weary (疲れた; 退屈な) night?
Dost thou desire (欲望, 願望; 情欲) my slumbers (眠り,うたたね) should be broken,
While shadows like to thee do mock (あざ笑う, あざける) my sight?
Is it thy spirit that thou send’st from thee
So far from home into my deeds to pry (のぞく, 詮索する),
To find out shames and idle hours in me.
The scope and tenour (趣旨, 主旨; 行路) of thy jealousy?
O, no! thy love, though much, is not so great:
It is my love that keeps mine eye awake;
Mine own true love that doth my rest defeat,
To play the watchman ever for thy sake:
For thee watch I whilst thou dost wake elsewhere,
From me far off, with others all too near.
