< 志賀の山越えにて、石井(ｲｼｲ)のもとにてものいひける人の別れける折によめる >
むすぶ手の しづくににごる 山の井の あかでも人に 別れぬるかな

< Composed when parting from a person with whom I exchanged words at mountain well. >
I had to part from him shortly,
Without taking time to get to know each other,
As if the muddy water could not subside shortly,
Caused by drops of water,
When, at mountain well, scooping up the water.

(鑑賞)
< 志賀の山越えの時に、石井(=山の井; 石で囲った井戸)のもとで口をきいた人と別れた時に詠んだ歌 >
水をすくい上げる手からから落ちたしずくで濁るほど浅い山の井の水が存分に飲めないように、ゆっくりと話もできずにその人と別れてしまった。
*むすぶ手 Musubute – 水をすくっている手; a hand which scoops up water.
(Appreciation)
I had to part from him shortly, without taking time to get to know each other, as if the muddy water caused by droplets when scooping up the water at mountain well could not subside to drink shortly.
