< 比叡にのぼりて、帰りまうできてよめる >
山高み 見つつわがこし 桜花 風は心に まかすべらなり

< Composed, coming back to the capital after climbing Mt. Hiei >
Blooming high in the mountain,
I can only look up helplessly,
At the cherry blossoms to entertain.
The wind, on the contrary,
Plays with them as it pleases freely.

< 比叡山に登り、都に帰ってきて詠んだ歌 >
山が高いので、わたしはただ見るだけできたが、風は桜花を自らの心のほしいままにしているのだ。
(Appreciation)
Blooming high in the mountain, I can only look up at the cherry blossoms, but unable to do anything else. But the wind is playing with them as it pleases freely.
