< 弥生(ﾔﾖﾋ)に鶯(ｳｸﾞﾋｽ)の声の久しう聞こえざりけるをよめる >
なきとむる 花しなければ 鶯も はては物憂く なりぬべらなり

< Composed as I cannot hear Japanese nightingales singing for a long time in the month of Yayoi. >
As there are no flowers,
To stop from falling,
Japanese nightingales,
Seem to become weary of singing.
At last, by so doing.

(鑑賞)
< 弥生3月に、鶯の声が久しく聞こえなかったので詠んだ歌 >
鳴いて(散るのを)止める花がないので、鶯もついに鳴くのが面倒になったようだ。
(Appreciation)
As there are no flowers to stop from falling by singing, Japanese nightingales, seem to become weary of doing so at last.
